Mac App Store
iPhone comes to the Mac?
A few weeks ago, in Apple’s press event, Steve Jobs mentioned the Mac App Store. This was not a real surprise, seeing as the App Store on the iPhone / iPod Touch and iPad is so hugely successful. But what is an App Store, and what will the Mac App Store look like?
A brief history of Apps
Anyone who’s owned an older mobile phone will remember what apps used to look like. They were clunky, and downloading them wasn’t straight forward. It must also be remembered that when Apple released their first iPhone, there were no such things as Apps. It took a little time for Apple to think up and create the App store, but since then, every other Mobile phone company (and I do mean every other) is trying to catch up with Apple’s success.
So very soon, Apple will release their version of an App Store that you can use to browse, search and download software for your Mac. In the next article (or two) I’ll go through what that means for day to day use of our Macs.
