Customising what’s on the sidebar
Here’s a quick answer to a question I was asked - “How do you take all that stuff away on the side of my Finder windows”.
Previously, I talked about how to customise your Finder sidebar (the list of folders and drives that you see on the left hand side of all Finder windows). Apart from dragging things in and out of the side bar, there’s a more organised way to do things:

Here you can see my sidebar. I’ve dragged in my home folders, such as Documents, Movies, Pictures and Downloads for easy access. But what if I wanted to take away the “Search For” section all together? Easy. Right click somewhere in your Sidebar:

and you should see “Open Sidebar Preferences…”. Click on this. You should see the following window pop up:

You can now choose what shows up and what doesn’t on your sidebar. Simple as that.
